In 1932, innovative George Stokke started a furniture outfit on the coast of West Norwegian and later deemed it fit to employ Scandinavian designers. Since then a lot of changes have been made in the company. Old products paved the way for new ones and since then, the philosophy of making sitting a way to good health has always been passed on. No wonder Varie values movement and variation in their ergonomic chairs. However, in 2006 Stokke (Varies former name) went into some re-organization so that the old Movement and Active designs went into extinction. The company later re-emerged as "Varier" in 2008! The first of their quality products to mention here is the Varier Variable Balans, the first chair so produced under the Balans concept developed by Peter Opvisk.
